  • PLD clarification
    Posted On: Dec 12, 2023

    To All,

I have received numerous inquiries about how PLD's will be handled with the advent of articles 5,6 and 7 coming on-line. Pre-Approved PLD (ALD for engineers) will be handled exactly as floating vacation days have been handled in the past. An individual will go on PRE status at 2230 prior to the start of the ALD. The ALD will start at 0730 in Gillette.

The broadcast message confused a lot of people by mentioning 0900 start times and 1201 PRE times. Technically, this is the language in the past agreement and also in the most recent one. But the 0900 time is adjusted (along with the PRE time) for the applicable advance calling time, which in Gillette is 1'30". Therefore, the start time at Gillette for a pre-approved ALD (engineers personal leave day) is 0730 with the engineer going off the board in PRE status at 2230.

Now for the bad part, all immediate layoffs for PLD (ALD for engineers) will begin upon approval, but regardless of the time laid off, it will end at 0729 the next day. You will not get a full 24 hours off for an immediate PLD (ALD for engineers).

So, in summarizing, all PLD (ALD for engineers) will be marked back up at 0730. This holds true for SDVs (single day vacations) also, just as it has in the past.
