  • Inward facing cameras
    Updated On: May 23, 2017

    ! ! ! ATTENTION ! ! !

Attached is a communiqué from the Carrier stating as of May 29 they will start using the inward facing cameras for auditing purposes.  They will review the cameras on post triggering events such as derailments, accidents, authority violations etc… They will also be using the inward facing cameras for remote random auditing.  Our GC of A office was party to a conference call with Sam Sexhus today and he voiced since the UP has started using their inward facing cameras they have captured 90 events in relation to cell phone  and electronic device usage.  Only the camera in the lead locomotive will be used for this process, but as always if there is a camera in the cab assume it is on and recording.  Please do not impede or block the view of the camera.  These cameras contain software that will sense blockage and will send a red flag for downloading the camera.  As a note all of the Unions voiced our disagreement with this process but the Carrier will implement as of May 29.

Restroom use, if engineer feels the need to stop he may do so, otherwise same as before.

Do not try to disable or block camera (automatically senses blockage).
